מוטיב הגדר מתקשר לנופי ילדותה של האמנית בשכונת העולים ב"גב־ים", בשנותיה הראשונות של המדינה. קריעת סדיני האם משולה לקריעה על המת.

The portal motif relates to the artist’s childhood surroundings at the Gav Yam neighborhood, during the early years of the State of Israel. The torn sheets may allude to the Jewish grieving custom of Qeri'ah (tearing the mourners’ garment).
